THE COMPANY
FPSG's client, a major financial services organisation with an office in the centre of Edinburgh are currently seeking an application packager to be based from this office.
THE ROLE
This group sits within the Global Technology Infrastructure function and is a core part of the technology services offered to our clients, managing the desktops and application portfolio used by the entire organisation.
This is a new role based in the Edinburgh Office. The new team member will work in conjunction with the existing EMEA Desktop Management team based within London and Edinburgh and also with other members of the Global Desktop Management team.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain further exposure to cutting edge windows desktop technologies and play a key role in the future engineering of the global desktop environment.
There will be a requirement for out of hours support and on-call support.
Key Responsibilities:-
Create Desktop / Terminal Server specific software packages for internal use using MSI and SoftGrid.
Provide preliminary testing, documentation, and 3rd level support for packaged applications and desktop core build.
Creation and Maintenance of a standard desktop build for global use.
Creation and Maintenance of Virtual desktop Images.
Creation of automated tools for use in application packages and repetitive tasks.
Participate in evaluations of new software and processes.
Create standards and templates for Desktop related methodologies.
Maintain existing process documentation stored on the global teams SharePoint site.
Work with US, PAC Rim, Australia and UK colleagues as part of a global team. As the global team is required to operate on a design once methodology, strong communication skills are required to ensure global consistency.
Skills and Qualifications:
In depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows Desktop Platforms (2000 / XP / Vista).
Significant experience with software packaging technologies (Wise for Windows Installer, MSI, SMS Installer, SoftGrid)
Strong experience and understanding of Active Directory.
Strong knowledge of scripting and automation tools (DOS batch scripting, WMI, VBScript, PowerShell.)
Strong troubleshooting abilities surrounding diagnosing and fixing application conflicts, OS problems and desktop environmental issues (DFS/DNS/DHCP/Group Policy).
Experience with MS Terminal Server, Citrix MetaFrame Server, MS SMS, MS DFS, and MS SQL Server a plus.
Experience with Windows 2000/2003 Servers a plus.
