Underwriting Director - My client is a global leader in its field with exciting expansion plans for their Insurance arm. They are recruiting now & require high achievers who are ambitious & career driven. The role is outlined as follows for Head of Underwriting:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE. Essential knowledge:
- A sound understanding of underwriting and pricing principles and experience of a wide range of technical issues.
- A good working knowledge of the personal lines market.
- Strong pricing knowledge and experience.
Numerical:
- The jobholder requires a good degree of numeracy with a strong ability to analyse and interpret complex data.
Communication:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent skills in explaining, both internally and externally to key business partners, the interpretation of policy wordings, underwriting and pricing decisions and the outcome of audits.
- Strong negotiation skills and relationship building skills.
- Excellent skills in explaining technical knowledge/issues to non technical people.
Work related:
- Computer literate, able to use spreadsheets and database packages.
- Organised and thorough, with good project management skills.
- Good risk evaluation skills.
- Proactive and innovative.
- Be an interdependent team player; participating with other team members and contributing constructively.
- Confident decision-maker who exhibits a willingness to take responsibility.
- Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.

Essential qualifications:
- Educated to a high level, ideally a degree holder, or have had the same level of directly relevant work experience.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a personal lines Head Office environment in a senior underwriting and/or pricing role is essential.
- Previous experience of pricing and development within the personal lines market.
- ACII preferred.
