    The Edinburgh Crisis Centre is an innovative service governed by by a unique partnership of Edinburgh Users Forum, Edinburgh Carers Council, NHS Lothian, City of Edinburgh Council and Penumbra. We are now in our new building and preparing for the next phase of our development in providing 24 hour crisis services.


    Job title Crisis Centre Project Worker

    Responsible to Crisis Centre Manager

    Salary £17,609- £20,518 (point 22-27)

    Working hours 36.25 full time working a range of shifts to provide cover 24/7. Additional shift and on call allowances.

    Annual Leave 33 Days per annum including public holidays (part time, pro rata).

    Post summary To provide callers to the Crisis Centre help line and visitors with short-term emotional and practical support with developing a Crisis Plan. To take a supervisory role in the day-to-day running of the help line and the Centre.

    Responsibilities
    To provide emotional support advice and information to people using the crisis centre services.

    To provide support via the telephone help line and face to face using clear non jargonised language.

    To develop an empowering relationship with callers and visitors helping them identify and recognise their own strengths using a recovery approach.

    To respect confidentiality working within Edinburgh Crisis Centre protocols.

    To provide information about relevant resources using information technology appropriately, and to provide an educative role to callers and visitors.

    To work closely with all team members promoting effective team working and develop effective working relationships with relevant agencies.

    To assist in the management of the Crisis Centre through supervising a team in relation to work practice.

    To assist in the supervision of Crisis Centre staff through support, supervision and identification of training needs.

    To take a liaison role in developing and maintaining effective links with specific agencies and groups identified through the Crisis Centre Equality action Plan working in Edinburgh e.g. Black and Minority Ethnic, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, Sensory Impaired etc.

    To contribute to the development of the Crisis Centre through taking an active part in user led training and regular evaluations of services at the Centre.

    To maintain accurate data collection and documentation within the parameters of relevant data protection legislation.

    To carry out any other duties which the Crisis Centre Manager may reasonably require of the post holder relevant to the main purpose of the job

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Education

    Essential - Good level of secondary education

    Essential - A relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in social work, health, community education or related field.

    Experience

    Essential - Demonstrable experience of working in mental health.

    Essential - Evidence of ability in providing supervision.
    Essential - Evidence of involvement in recruitment.
    Essential - Evidence of working in empowering relationships and using recovery based understanding and skills.
    Essential - Evidence of commitment to equal opportunities.
    Essential - Experience of managing health and safety requirements.
    Desirable - Experience of working with users and carers as sector or service representatives.

    Skills

    Essential - Evidence of ability to work with people in distress
    Essential - Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    Essential - Evidence of ability to manage stress effectively.
    Essential - Evidence of providing leadership in a team and working effectively with other agencies.
    Essential - Evidence of experience of working with IT equipment.
